About Luke
From humble beginnings on the ranch to mid-life career changes, the one thing that has been a constant in my life is a passion for horsemanship and self improvement.
NICE TO MEET YOU!
I'm Luke Brown
After growing up on a sheep and cattle ranch in Colorado and getting my Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy, I turned back to my roots and started training horses for a living.
Now, my wife, Stacy, and I and our children live in San Tan Valley, AZ where we train horses, give private horsemanship lessons, conduct horsemanship clinics, and help people who love horses find their purpose and the pathway to their dreams.
Our Mission
Our first mission at Reata Horsemanship is to help people get unstuck and find purpose, passion, and fulfillment in life.
With the explosion of technology and social media, many people are consumed with information and entertainment overload, leading to feeling lost and without purpose or fulfillment.
Along with Life Coaching, our mission also includes helping horsemen and women with the tools and knowledge to create safer and more enjoyable relationships with their horses.
There is too much confusion and frustration with all the advice people get about how to treat their horse, and we are dedicated to cut through the confusion and give you clarity and confidence with your horse.

The Ranch
Growing up on Reata Ranch, a sheep and cattle ranch in beautiful southwestern Colorado, I was exposed to horses and mules from a very young age. My passion for them came naturally, and I spent countless hours training, packing, and riding them.
Humans have always shared a special connection with horses. We've partnered with them throughout history, from traveling the globe to fighting wars to plowing fields and so much more. Even though for many of us, the role of the horse in our lives has changed, that connection has not.
Because of our connection, curiosity, admiration, and passion for these incredible and beautiful animals, we can put ourselves and these horses in harm's way when we don't have the experience to know better.
Growing up, I was no exception. When I was 7, I was given my first horse, Invierno. He was born one cold, wintery night in January, and it was love at first sight as I laid eyes on him that freezing morning.
At the age of 9, I started training Invierno. It was through this process I began to experience the excitement and danger of horse training. Despite my lack of knowledge, experience, and skill, after many injuries, run-offs, broken bones, and more, Invierno became rideable. The lessons I learned from training this incredible horse still guide some of our Reata Horsemanship training program to this day.
These training experiences with Invierno, as well as other frightening experiences on the ranch helped me realize that although I had a burning passion for horses, I didn’t enjoy being scared to be around them, or on them.
I wanted my experiences to be fun, not frightening, and I began the quest of learning how to train horses with both sensitizing (asking for movement) and desensitizing (asking for relaxation) techniques that could help them be responsive to my cues and reduce the likelihood of them causing dangerous situations.
To learn more about how you can be a more effective and safe leader for your horse, please join us at Reata Horsemanship and let us help you develop that relationship you've always wanted.

I Want to Start My Journey Today!Safety First!
I have learned over time that most horse problems happen because of the human.
However, it's not your fault! Most horse owners don't train full time, and many times, you are taking the conflicting advice of others and doing the best you can. Then, usually our mistakes and misunderstandings about horses create dangerous horses and situations.
That doesn't have to be! You can have clarity! You can create a safe and fun relationship with your horse!
While my journey to learning about how to make horses safer and more enjoyable feels like it’s just beginning, I do have 40+ years of experience, both good and bad, both safe and dangerous, with horses, and now I want to share that with YOU!
I understand you because I was you.
- I've made mistakes that, but for the grace of God, I shouldn't have survived.
- I've been so frustrated I've screamed at the top of my lungs.
- I've wanted to give up.
- I've been confused.
- I've been afraid.
- I've been lonely.
- I've felt incompetent.
- I've been embarrassed.
- I've ignored good advice because of pride.
- I've tried to do it on my own.
Do any of these problems strike a nerve? We've all been here, and our mission at Reata Horsemanship is to help you to new heights in your horsemanship and life! This is our mission and our greatest passion!
